Post stiff shift....

Hi all,

The gearshift on my 85 944NA is sometimes really hard to engage gears and is a bit well lumpy/clunky. I am changing the gearbox oil this weekend and it has been suggested that there is a linkage somewhere that passes over the the exhaust pipes hence gets hot and dries out. It has been said that oiling this will help but i cant find anything like the description of it on the car any ideas where is it ??!!

Cheers

Phil

The driver's side...ehhh, hate to use that term if you're from the UK...let's call it the left side if you're seated in the car. The left side axle tends to take a beating from exhaust heat and usually fails before the passeng...uh, right side. If you're going to be under the car, the shift linkage is pretty easy to find. To make it extra easy, have someone sit in the car and run the car through the gears while you watch the transmission. You'll see the linkage moving around. Spray the pivot points with a some sort of lube or flowable grease. That and a gear oil change and you should be all set.
