Exclamation How many '89 Turbo S's were imported? (value of parts to)

How man of the 1989 Turbo S series were imported into the United states? How much would you say an engine+bellhousing(clutch in it still)+torque tube+transmission from one of these cars with 70K is worth??? Thanks alot.

If there are NO problems with the engine/transmission, I'd say the combination is worth about $4000 total. That's just a guess - maybe $2500 for the engine, and $1500 for the transmission. The torque tube and bell housing don't really figure into the value, since housings usually don't go bad, and I'd personally never install a "used" torque tube without it being rebuilt first.

You might get more for the engine if somebody is desperate and needs it badly enough.

The only figure I have available right now is 1385 for North America [US + Canada], so that probably doesn't help much. There were only 718 of the 88 Turbo S's imported to the US, so the figure for 89 is probably closer to that one. A good 89 turbo tranny will run up to $2800, and I'm just not sure about the bellhousing, torque tupe, or engine...I'll throw out a guess of $7000! -Trevor

I agree with $2500 + for the trany. Try finding one for less than that. I, too am aware of the limited numbers, and took 2 years to find the suspension/brake upgrade stuff from an '89 for my '86 (I have a budget). ANyway - these parts aren't going to increase in number, but there ARE aftermarket alternatives to each, so it isn't as if they will skyrocket in value (the parts), IMO, just eventually become harder to find...

I can't honestly say much about the value question, but I know that Greg went through hell w/his engine rebuild situation awhile back, so he's probably priced a few and has a decent rough estimate.

As for the #'s, I've always seen it printed in mags like Excellence, Pano, EC, etc, that there were about 715 '88 Turbo S's, like G96 said, and, I've always seen about 1200 for the # of'89's for the US only...

I'm with Greg. $4K for a 70K miles engine and tranny combo that is understood to in good working condition and you have faith in this information. $1-2K more if it has not been abused and you personally know the owner.
