Post AC question

I didn't get any good info from the archive -Approx. how many pounds of refrigerant does the AC system hold ('88 951). Mine is dead and I am considering the changeover to R134 but need that info first. Thanks!

There was a great thread on this which went into the conversion in detail. Maybe it is on the old board's archive. You definately want to find that.

i think it holds 33.5oz, which would be 2lbs 1.5oz right? anyway look for a yellow sticker that says the exact spec, mine was on the front of the drivers side strut tower.

The stock system held 33.5 oz. of R12,however when converting to R134 you use only 80-85% of the original fill capacity.

I used approximately 20 oz of R134a and an 8oz oil charge + 2 oz refrigerant propellant. My system wasn't fully evacuated, and I didn't drain the old mineral oil - so my charge might be lighter than a full-purge conversion. I first over-filled, then evacuated enough R134a from the low-side to get my high-side pressure in spec.
