Chips for 944

Chips for 944
Hi there,
A web site in Australia claims to be able to lift the standard 944na Euro 85 model from it's 120kw base to 137kw using a chip designed for the 98 Octane Optimax fuel which I use already. Here's the link: http://www.powerchip.com.au/chips/chip.asp?cid=Por0000
I have heard in the past that chips don't do anything in na cars but do make a nice difference in turbos.
Is their claim likely to be true, untrue or somewhat true from what people have experienced in the past?
Or has anyone actually tried this chip before?
I'd be willing to put money down for their asking price if it's a completely true statement, but I get to thinking they are full of crap.
Thanks,
Sam.

On another note why is it that American na cars are rated lower than Euro na cars.
If they both have the same engine then surely the only difference would be the chip or am I completely wrong.

US Cars of that era had to comply with various emissions restrictions that other markets didn't have. Also US cars were set up to use a lower Octane fuel which meant lower compression. The 944S in 1987 was the first 1 market Porsche with the same engine worldwide.
Also different measuring protocols (DIN, SAE, etc) produce different numbers and to further confuse matters, horses are different size in different systems as well.
Then there is the matter of where you measuer the power, flywheel, rear wheels . . .

On your original question, chips can only adjust fuel delivery, ignition timing and rev limit on non turboed cars. While there is some room for improvement vs factory the gains are limited. On turbos the chip can increase the boost which effectively increases copmression ratio and displacement so there are some real gains to be made. (I know the chip doesn't make the motor bigger, it just allows more air to be forced in)

I'm almost sold after their well prepared sales pitch. They have a list of people who have sent letters saying they are happy with the results, especially turbo people.
I think it may be worth it but I'll wait a couple of months (probably) before I decide whether I really want to spend that much money.
Thanks,
Sam.

A chip made a big difference in my S2. Other S2 owners have also reported a noticeable difference after a chip install. The gains were minimal compared to a Turbo (somewhere in the 12 hp range), but it was noticeable enough to make it worth the endeavor.
I know it is a different engine, but the S2 engine is N/A (normally aspirated).

Also, Early EURO 944s have a higher compression ration than its US version. And, no cat or O2 sensor on the Early EURO 944.
