Post Steering Wheel Vibration.

I have a 83 944. I was wondering where the steering wheel vibration is coming from. Its always there but is very prominent when braking. any help is appreciated...

Uneven tyre wear. Front wheels out of alignment. Disk rotors warped. Worn steering system. The list goes on. I think you need to do some basic troubleshooting or take it to a mechanic. If you have worn or damaged steering components, cv joints and the like you may be in a dangerous situation so I would advise post haste repair,

If light pressure on the brake results in a stronger vibration, my best guess is that you have warped and/or cracked brake rotors. When was the last time the front wheels were off and the brake parts inspected? Proper diagnosis involves checking the thickness, and runout of the disc across the entire surface to check for irregularity or warping.

Another possibility that comes to mind is loose/sloppy wheel bearings. When you brake, you put more torsional stress on the front wheel bearings, and that can increase any vibration that is being caused by them.
