Default 944 wiper issue

Hello,
I am a new Porsche owner and I have a "new guy still researching and learning question". My windshield wipers on my 84 944 move pretty slowly and seem to just have 1 setting. Is this most likely a new motor replacement? Thanks

I'd try the switch first, start with cleaning all of the connections and grounds in the car. There are 2 under the dash up above the fuse box. If you need a stalk/switch setup I have one from my 924S (no cruise control) that worked great.

If your watershield over the firewall area/blower/ww motor & assembly is cracked or missing, more than likely the wiper motor is corroded and needs to be replaced or rebuilt.

Wipe all the crude and lube the wiper linkages. Most wipers don't get used much (unless you are in a rainy climate) so they get rusty/dried out at the linkages. It worked great for me.

Should be fairly easy to remove the whole wiper assembly. If you can get two long wires. Say 10ga or 12 should be fine. One end to the + and - of the battery. Disconnect the wiper motor at the connection.
Put the - on a brown wire. (GND). I'm not going to say the color of the + because my car is a later model. But you can trial and error it with connecting the + wire. You won't be able to fry anything with just 12v.
After trying several wires you should have found if you have both fast and slow with your motor. If you still see 1 speed then i bet your motor will need some TLC. Take it apart and dielectric grease it.
If you can spare $100. You might be able to find for less on ebay. Buy one of these.... http://www.powerprobe.com

The grease inside the motor/gears is all dried out after 25-30 years. You need to disassemble, clean, and re-grease. Then they will move at their normal slow pace compared to modern cars.

I have a similar problem on my 85.5 944. The wipers were slowly getting worse until they stopped working altogether.

However, they work fine if i pull the switch back as if to spray the wiper fluid, I dont have any fluid in there so that's how i've been using my wipers for the last few days.

Any suggestions? Thank you!

(apologies if i'm not posting in the correct format, just joined few hours ago).

This is a somewhat old thread, but no worries. That definitely sounds like an electrical contact issue in the stalk. Take it apart and clean the contacts and you should be good to go.
