Question Squeaky front brakes, sometimes?

Hello all.
My front brakes are squeaky on occasion, and seem to feel rough at the end of braking. It happens 75% of the time. The PO said he had the brakes redone all around. Lots of life left on pads, rotors look o.k. but I really don't know what to look for.
Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks-
Jason

Check to see if there is anti-squeel goop on the back of the pads.

It can be very expensive to fix squeeky brakes. Often it requires new rotors and pads. If you do spend the money on new rotors and pads, make sure you rough the rotors up with a rotory sander. This causes the pads to seat better, and squeel less.

Finally, some pads just squeel. Early hondas would squeel if you didn't get the OEM pads for them.

Thanks Tabor,

With the help of Han's email he sent me I think I've got it figured out. The rotors have developed a 1 mm rim thus locking in the pads position. I am going to grind off this rim and put anti-sieze compound inbetween the pad on the caliper.

Does anyone know the minimum thickness of the front rotors on a stock 84'? If their to thin I will just replace the rotors. The pads are relativly new.

Thanks again-
Jason

Thanks again Tabor!!
If you ever make it up this way I'd love to see your finished 944/968 project, I'd even be willing to give you a hand if needed. I make it into the Portland area quite often.

Awesome. I go out to Pendelton some times. After my project is done, I will have to stop by and show you.

I don't know how true this is but I had someone tell me once that is you own a German car and your brakes DON'T squeak, you need to see what's wrong with them. At least on the older German cars.

If you don't want your brakes to squeak, hit them like racing brakes should be hit (Someone here on Rennlist said that once I think).

Mine only squeek when I go backwards. But I know for a fact that I have warped front rotors and racing pads on the front. I am suprised the don't squeel more.

OT:

Tabor, how on earth do you have 4 stars? You are the man and answer nearly every question you can! From what I've seen they've been right on or at least helpful!

I'll vote you 5 stars!

Well, I have twenty 5 star votes, and two 1 star votes. The two 1 star vote are from me calling George and Carlos rude in a pro-928, anti-996 thread that they posted on the 996 list! Actually, I think I gave them 1 star votes as well, so I guess I had it coming. But as far as I can tell, I can't take my votes back, and neither can they. Personally, I respect thier knowledge, but I do find them rude at times. The thread was Shark Bites 996.

On a similar note, how did Ahmet end up with 4 stars? I think he knows more about these cars as me.
