Post Blaupunkt Display

Does anyone have any experience with a Blaupunkt model, the "Honolulu"?

I am considering one for a 944 cabriolet, and I have concerns about the brightness of the display in the sunlight.

Hi Paul,

My BP is a "Key West". Even in indirect sunlight, I have found the display to be very inadequate. It gets washed out very easily during the day. I have always thought they were weak during the day, but I wanted another BP to replace the original radio with. It does look great at night!

I installed the Blaupunkt 'Munchen' around 2 months back and am very happy with the quality and sound but as far as the daytime display quality goes, it sucks. Although, I did have my windows tinted last week and this helped a great deal!

FWIW....

I installed a Blau Toronto because:

1) It matched the decor/style of the 944
2) It has adjustable lighting colors (range from green to red with a nice match to the 944 orange

Thanks guys. I got my Blau today in UPS from Crutchfield. The Honolulu has an amber display, that seems to match the 944 look. I took it outside in full sun and activated the unit, and I could read the display fairly well. I have another Blau in a different car (the Boston, which is like the Key West, in that it has a black shiny face and weak LEDs that get washed out pretty quickly. The Honolulu seems to be more suited to a cabrio.
