What is the difference between the 3" catback and the 3" straight pipe/muffler replacement with 4" tip in terms of performance, and sound (loudness)? I'm looking to put one of these on my 87' 951 but I just don't know what the difference would be. The straight pipe is about $150 less too? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. Oh yeah, is the straight pipe street legal?

The 3" cat-back has the piping from the cat to the muffler. The striaght pipe muffler replacement just replaces the muffler that comes with the cat-back.You need the cat-back in order to use the straiught pipe replacement. The striaght pipe replacement might not be legal for use on a public highway in your area.It is defintiely illegal in CA. The straight pipe will be much louder then the muffler. You can use the resonated tip on it but it will still be loud. The quietest system we have is the cat-back with the 4" resonated tip.The loudest is the straight pipe with no tip or the testpipe with the side exit. If you are confused.......I completely understand:^)There are alot of options. You should call us to get the correct set-up for your needs.

The N/A cars will always be louder with a straight pipe then the turbo cars. The turbo acts like a muffler.Alot of the exhaust gas is diverted through the turbo, then to the rest of the exhaust system.
