Post Does anyone have a used/remanned tranny

I am thinking about replacing my 951 tranny with an na item (perferably an lsd). Does any body have expirience on this? Or how about a good unit for sale?

I know I suggested this in another thread. I would recommend that you consider the gearbox a "consumable" and budget in money for a tow truck. Pop the 944 gearbox in, then use the time you have to rebuild your 951 box. That way, it'll be ready when you blow up the 944 box.

Kinda hard to blow $500 (non lsd) on a consumable though!

I know there is at least one guy on the board who has done this. For all the others out there that have done this and experienced failure, how long did it last?

On another note, after rebuilding a blown up 944 na gearbox with the help of a friend several years ago, we noticed a lot of play in the pinion. The races that hold the pinion in are a press fit, which ultimately could move. I think this is the primary cause of ring & pinion failure on a 944 na gearbox. Play develops, and when there is high, abrupt torque and the pinion isn't fully engaged on the ring, you get cracked teeth. A lot of disassembly is required to actually measure and adjust this, so you might as well just wait till the $500 ring and pinion fails.
