Default Bridgestone Potenza - mixing RE-11 and RE-11A

I am thinking about buying a set of these, but the tirerack only has RE-11s for my rear size and RE-11As for the front (I have 16" CS wheels). A guy on their live chat told me these 2 tire models can be used together this way.

Does that sound right? I am pretty sure they're the same tread pattern, just a different compound, but I really know nothing about tires so I'm just wondering if anyone has anything to add.

I have the RE-11 on my 85.5 944, 225 front and 245 rear and love them
