OK, what's my next, cheapest, best bang for the buck mod to my 951?

Post OK, what's my next, cheapest, best bang for the buck mod to my 951?

OK, I'm ready for another incremental upgrade.

My 951 has a K&N filter, Lindsay Boost Enhancer, and Autothority Stage 2 chips.

The car is running really well. I am hoping to reduce turbo lag, without adding too much top-end boost... I have enough HP to play with (considering my level of driving competence), don't want to blow the engine, don't want to engage in major labor that will take the car out of service for too long.

What shall I do next?

(1) Shim the wastegate?
(2) Install a blowoff valve?
(3) Install a rising rate fuel pressure regulator?

Something else?

I know about MAF and bigger exhaust, the money ain't there. I'm looking for incremental improvement here at minimal cost.

TIA

Get the AFPR, and A/F gauge, turn up the AFPR to about 50 psi when you are at the DYNO, make 3 runns;
half, three quarter, and full throttle. After turning down the fuel pressure on these runs, to avoid running too rich, try to get your A/F number in the 12.5 area running, 14.7 at idle.

APE will burn you a set of chips with your fuel pressure and dyno readings for about $100.00 You can take the chips out and send to APE, you can buy a new set for 595 on credit card, when they get your old ones back, they will credit your card 495.

I've got a more detailed tuning write up from a member on this board.

Change you plug wires, and get an MSD coil.
If you want to reduce lagg time. check out Jon Milledge's hotter camshafts!!! (that's the route Im gonna go) <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Thaddeus,

A blow off valve won't give you any performance increase unless the one you have is bad. A new exhaust or at least a test pipe would probably be the next logical step for a power increase/decrease in lag but you say you are content with the HP for now.

You might want to consider upgrading the brakes and suspension first. Don't know what year your car is and whether or not you have the M030 suspension. You can start with some performance brake pads such as Performance Friction, Hawks, or Pagids for the brakes. You won't believe how much better these things will stop you although the price you pay is with the noise and increased rotor wear. Next you might want to consider some better struts/shocks and upgraded coil over springs.

Not to disway you from performance upgrades, because I know how fun they are, but your money would be very well spent just driving the car in as many Drivers Eds as you can afford.

Good Luck!

Thaddeus,
I don't know what you've got going already for the suspension on your car, but if your satisfied with the current hp level for the moment, why not do something that would really impact(well, hopefully there will be no IMPACT involved, heh, heh) the overall driving experience like the M030 swaybar set? They cost about $475-500 from Paragon and are an easy install. They will TRANSFORM the car!
A lot les of this <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />
Good Luck,
Russ
