Post Home car hoists?

Anybody have a line on Home hoists that will pick up the car without suspending it by the wheels that is not insanely expensive? Sure would be nice to be able to lift up the car to work on it without hassling with jacks, jack stands, props, logs, prayers, etc.

Does three grand sound fair for a lift?

Too much bread, and this model won't help me when I want to take the wheels off. Next?

Are you sure? You need to look harder. If you succeed in finding anything less than 3 grand, let me know!

Did anyone see the movable lift they had on Horsepower TV recently? I can't find it on their website or anywhere else. It was sweet. It was small enough so you could wheel it around themselves. Kind of resembled a huge electric floor jack to pick the whole car straight up 3ft or so.

I have the Autolifters 2 Post lift in my home workshop. It is the 7000 assymetrical model. When I got it last year, it was on special and cost me $2295 delivered plus some other goodies.
The portable lift from HPTV I beleve can be located in Northerntool.com. It costs $3799.99. One option is the long reach air operated jack that will jack up either end of your car. These usually go for $399-$999.

I see used 6000 - 9000 lb lifts in my local free ad paper, bargain news all the time for like $1000-$1500. I don't know if you have something like this in your area but if you do it's a good place to check.
I bought a Rotary 9000 a-symmetrical from a used equipment dealer who got a bunch of them from a dealership that went down, it was less than a year old and looked hardly used for $3000 with a tranny jack and big truck adaptors. Now this is way more than a home shop would need but I have a 3500 sq ft shop and do work on some big trucks sometimes.
But if you'd still like to go new, check out eagle lifts as they are very competitively priced.
Let us know if you get something

Oh yeah, before you even go shopping make sure your foundation is thick enough. I think you need a minimum of 3" or 4".
I found this out after my purchase and ended up having to dig out these huge squares and pour in these big slabs to mount it on. You may need less for a smaller lift though.

Thaddeus,

I shopped these last year. About $2000 is the floor for the 2 post lifts. Peter's suggestion to shop for a used one is excellent. If you go this route, make sure that it is properly installed and correctly (especially the latch and lock mechanism)properly...safety first...I want to continue reading posts from, and not about you!

Thanks for the info everyone. I guess this is one 'nice-to-have' that is going to be a 'not-gunna-have'. Of course, I'm looking for a different house, maybe I'll get insanely lucky and find a house with an equipped shop.

Also, thanks for the concern, Mike, but I'm a 39 year old papa too.... and very cautious.

cheers

Thaddeus
