Default Signal Light/Brake Light Issue

Having some weird electrical issues on my '84 NA. When I signal right, the right rear signal light works as it should. However when I hit the brakes, the right rear signal shuts off and the brake light begins flashing as if it were the signal light.

Would the best route be to trace the wiring and see if there's any crossed wires? Or should I just try swapping out the panel that all the bulbs screw into?

Check out the tail light assembly. there was a ton of corrosion on mine that caused interesting electrical. While you are back there, trace the wires back and see if you see a cross.

also check that you have the correct bulbs. I had a strange issue with turn signals that was due to the turn signal bulb being one filament vs two. Doubt this is your issue, but easy to check.
