My -86 951 sometimes hesitates when I try to start the engine...it seems like it doesn`t have power to turn the engine but then it gets going, this is not related to any spesific condition (engine being cold or warm for example). Could this be a faulty starter, the battery should be good (1,5 years old Bosch and an alternator fixed at the same time)?

Could be the starter solenoid starting to go but I would first check the power and ground down to the starter before I pulled it off. They could be corroded and poor connections.

You can have a shop check out the starter and put in a new solenoid and pinion gear for something around $60, if that is the problem, and you bring it into them.

Ditto on the recommendation to check the ground. My starter's negative wire was internally corroded, and was providing a bad ground between the engine block/starter and the negative terminal on the battery. I installed a heavy ground strap between the grounding lug on the frame (connected to negative terminal on battery) and my block, and now the starter works GREAT.

i suppose LL is my country man Lauri, so i change into finnish now.
Lauri mulla oli samanlainen ongelma mun autossa jokin aika sitten.Tsekkaa miinus puolen johdot, että maadoitus on OK.Mulla oli amerikan malliin asennettu hälytin joka oli solenoidissakin kiini.Johdatus oli päin p:tä, tehty monesta piuhan pätkästä.Purin koko hoidon välistä ja nyt on startti toiminut.
