I forgot to put these plastic things in when I reassembled my rear calipers and I was wondering how important they are? What is their purpose? The calipers aren't hard to take off/apart, but I really don't feel like fighting to get them on again

They look like teflon shims that go between the main assembly and the caliper barrel to provide dry sliding lubrication. The brakes should function well without them but over time and miles you'll have metal on metal and they could cause sticking of the caliper barrel. Your choice to take it or leave it.

Well metal to metal contact is never good, so I guess I'll put them in... Do they go on the top or the bottom of the clip that holds on the floating frame?

I think they will only go in one way, they fit in notches so it should be easy to tell where they go.
Good luck with them, those aren't fun to take apart and put back together.

Taking them apart wasn't really that bad. Getting them back together was the hard part. It was 100 times worse after I put these things in because they kept falling out
