Question Motronic fault codes

Anybody know how to access the fault codes from the Motronic ? The Bosch handbook indicates that most of the Motronic systems have some method for displaying them (via flashing dash lights or similar), but I have no idea which pins need to be jumpered and so forth.

Alternatively, does anyone make a reasonably priced code reader for it, Snap-On maybe ?

Thanks,

Dave

From Automotive Computer Codes and Electronic Engine Management Systems:

On models with a check engine light, turn the ignition key to the On position, then depress the accelorator pedal to the floor and hold it there for five seconds. The CHECK ENGINE light should go out then come on again. At this point, take your foor off the accelorator pedal; the next series of flashes on the CHECK ENGINE light will represent the first trouble code. Repeat this procedure until all of the trouble codes have been output and code 1000 is displayed, indicating the end of the sequence.

On models without a CHECK ENGINE light, you'll need a Porsche tester (No. 9288 or 9268) or a substitute aftermarket code reader to display the codes. Plug the factory tester or the code reader into the diagnostic connector, which is located in the right (passenger) footwell on the 944 and 968 models, and in the right kick panel on the 928 models.

Great, thanks for the help. Next question - where are the diagnostic codes listed ? Service manuals ?

Thanks
