Default Lemons 924S rear swaybar or not for NH loundon track

Hi all,

We have a 87 924S with a 2.5 NA 24 hour of Lemons racer.

Here is our setup:

Stock front sway bar, koni adj and stiff spring coil overs.

Rear konis all the way stiff- needs more shock as our experienced driver says.

I have a stock rear swaybar setup off a 944 NA that I could put on. will that help or hurt? No LSD

I have been told by non 924/944 racers no don't add it since it will unload the wheel on turning exit [which is a problem now]

Thanks,
Pete

It will unload the wheel, but depending on how big the bar is it may be worth it. I'm thinking a 14mm would be good, 18mm is to big to match the front bar.

I would say add it, although I never tracked my 924S before I added a rear sway bar. From driving on the street, I can say that the car felt more sure-footed in turns with the rear sway bar

I'll have to measure it. IIRC its a stock 86 944 2.5NA and I thought it was around 1/2" so 14mm it very well may be.

Coming down the straight at Loundon 4th gear at red-line, full on brake into turn 1, set-up to turns 2/3 the car is floating and very easy to come around, probably the scariest at any point on the track. It feels the least predictable there.

The turn up hill just leaves the *** drifting with the peg leg spinning, but completely predictable, as well with the bowl and downhill back into the track.

My understanding of suspension would say that it'll be a better car to drive with the rear bar in.
Be aware I have very little real world application of this theory, as I'm just coming up on my first year of racing now.

You may also need to replace some bushings in the rear suspension. That will cause the float under braking as well.

the only bushing we did was the front sway bar and the front control arms.

I have a welding/fab shop and may put some spherical bearings in some spots after this next NH race.

Thanks All!

I figured that I would post results finally.

Saturday nice weather then rain and we added it after racing Saturday night, since the wet would make it even more likely to over steer.

Sunday nice all day and the car felt better everywhere! up hill down hill, stopping, inside out side, just everywhere we were all more confident.

Now the kicker is that we were 0.2 seconds slower the second day with the sway bar on. But since we all felt it as a confidence builder and a better drive we are going to leave it on.

Max the camber on the Rear :-)

Our 924S (with sway bars all around) would get flighty -- maxed out the rear camber and
she just drifts nicely.
