Post 84 , 944 sunroof problem , more details

Hi guys thanks for the replys, here is my problem in more detail, let me first say that, I have only recently inherited this car so I have never actually operated the sunroof., when I first started troubleshooting , I did not have any power to the sunroof motor at all, I eventually found the radio/sunroof relay bad, so at this point , I still was not able open the sunroof but I could hear the motor running, I manually opened the sunroof (but I could not removed it from the car, which can be another problem) and sure enought I was then able electrically close it with the electric switch. I manually open the roof again and I had someone operate the electric switch while i watched the electric motor, I can hear it running and I could see that the manual drive hex was trying to move but seemed to be slipping, so, I think the drive system is okay from the motor to the sunroof lifters, because i can maually open and close them, but I think the electric drive motor itself has the problem internally, , , thanks for your help guys

Not to beat a dead horse but from what you just discribed it actually sounds like you have stripped gears in the arms that lift the roof. Easy to check first rather than trying to disasemble the motor. The gears that replace the broken ones are like 12 bucks anyware and are an easy fix unless you have driven the cable cmopletelu out of the roof mech. <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />
