Post Burn-out?

I saw some pics of doing a Burn-out(rear wheels...smoky). Please tell me why you do that and how to do it?

Okay here is what you need to do...(Please note: If you don't follow these instructions exactly, you may fail in your efforts to look like a *** that doesn't realize (or care about) the abuse that he is inflicting on his car!) Rev the motor up towards redline, pop the clutch and stomp on both the break and gas at the same time. Happy motoring...

Please do not tell me that you are serious. Brake and gas!!! Maybe with rear drum brakes... but even that is a bad idea. I know from experience to never dump the clutch on a car. Especially if you still have the stock clutch with the rubber center. They are a little fragile.

Dumping your clutch can inflict major damage on your 944. $$$. There are easier ways to burn your tires. Do your mechanic a favor and take it easy on your car.

The easiest way would be to but an automatic Camaro, step on the throttle and the brake at the same time and sit there creating smoke for no reason until the cops show up.

Why is it done? In serious drag racing, to heat the rear tires up for beter traction on launch. In most other cases, become there's a loose nut behind the wheel.... one who's soon going to be parted from major dollars.

It's very abusive of the clutch & other driveline components; essentially free-revving the engine isn't the best thing for it, either...

But it looks _so_ cool!

Jim, not!

For those of you that didn't pick up on my sarcasm... I have no experience with this mindless practice because I wouldn't subject my car to such abuse. Please excuse my poorly informed answer to the question at hand.

Hey Tim, from the picture it looks like your front wheels came clear off the ground! Might be time to invest in some wheelie bars. Or did you have a few hundred pounds of lead under the rear hatch?

BTW Rob, I got the sarcasm, I can't believe others didn't. I gave you some stars to compensate.

from experience

trail #1....i had some damn good smoke happening...what i did was rev it up, dropped the clutch and gently press on the brake till the car sat still...then smoke smoke smoke....me and a mustang 5.0 patch of tire residue are still left on the pavement to this day....its alittle light but still noticable....and this was done about 2, 3 months ago....

trail #2....i decided to do this again and get some pics of it....because it was cool...i did the same thing....except i hit the brakes too hard....and i heard a snap....ends up i had to replace my tranny....

trail #3....soon to come...this time i got a 944s2 tranny... ...

thanks,
space
