Burn outs are pointless with radial tires. They just get greasey. A quick dry hop to rid them of debris is all you need. And front wheel drive cars do make use of wheelie bars as devices to pre load the front tires. Everyone knows that front wheel drive is the wrong formula for drag when faced with physics. But it's perfect when faced with real world walletts. The only difference between todays ricers and yesterdays hot rodders is # of cylinders and they are a hell of a lot faster are more reliable now. How many teenagers ran around with blown out glass packs, way to big of a cam and hooker header/crane cam stickers on their cars 15-20 years ago.

OK, so if dumping the clutch is a horrific evil, how do you shift quickly between gears correctly? I've been pushing in the clutch, selecting the next gear then getting off the clutch as quickly as possible (only rarely when the 1/10ths matter), which usually results in a chirp or a bit of wheelspin depending on which gear. Good or bad?

Lets put the burning your tires to an analogy.

My friend was on his way back from the Frankfurt Airport in his 82 NA. He was running about 210-220 the whole way. A few Kilos out of town, POOF, no more engine. Just because the car can do it, repetitive abuse on your engine or tranny will catch up with you. He ended up paying 6000DM just to get back a few minutes earlier. I don't want to pay $$$ just to hear my tires chirp.

I think I just turned into my parents...
