Actually, I kinda liked the Falkens that I had a few years back. They are similar to Kumhos in that they use a medeocre tread design, but make up for it by using very soft rubber compounds. This combination saves engineering costs to keeps the price down, the tires stick to the road well, but they don't last as long as the more expensive tires.
I looked some more and didn't find Kuhmo tires in any size that should be used on a 944 with 15" wheels. Didn't see any Falkens at all. Guess I didn't look inthe right place.

On my 91 944S2 I have used Sumitomo, BFG, and Kumho tires. The BFG Comp TA ZR cost the most but in my opinion no better than Sumitomo or Kumho. After the BFGs I used the Sumitomo HTR Z II with very good results. I Auto X on the weekends and they work great. The only negative thing was I got less than 10,000 miles out if them. The rear tires were completly bold. Now I am using the Kumho ECSTA Supra 712. So far they appear to be a good tire. Each tire cost under a hundred dollars. I am using 275/40/17 for my rear and 245/40/17 for the front. Unfortunatly they do not come in a 215/60/15.

i am not sure are german Pneumant tires available in north america.I use 255/40-17 back and 215/45-17 front in my 951.
Pneumant was originally east german tire mark, not so good in old DDR days. After Germany united again Continental bought Pneumant. After that they have made good tyres lot cheapr price comparing many other marks.

I have the Bridgestone RE730's on my ride and they work great for the money! I havent autocrossed with them yet but, I wouldnt mind it since the tread life on them has been great also.

hmmm on my old 944 i had replaced the tires with some pirelli's i bought at sams club. at the time i was 18 broke and needed rubber on my 83 944 to get it to pass state safety inspection. i only paid about $55 per tire and they were highly reccomended by my mechanic. as far as overall performance for track im not sure how great they would be...but you wanted cheap tires.....also check the classifieds in your area..sometimes you can find some decent used tires really really cheap...

Well I just got home from puttin new skins on the 944s. I chose Dunlop SP5000's. 205/55v16's front and 245/50v16's rear on new 7 & 9 x 19 phone dials, just bought on e-bay. NTB matched Tire Racks price and forewent the $10.00 extra the charge on top (They match price + $10.00 per tire for ship). Kind of misleading but I bitched and they didn't charge me. I asked Tire Rack about the Kuhmo's and they recommended the Dunlops. The bitch is they screwed up one of the rear rims..Grrrrrrrr!!!! They are replacing it. Did the monkeys from Pep Boys get hired at NTB! Anyhow the whole deal was about 5 bills.
