Anyone know a simple explanation on why my fans quit running as soon as I turn my car off. I assume they're supposed to run for a few minutes like my friends 87 N/A even though mine is an 86 951. On a couple of occasions they have kept running, but 99% of the time they shut off with the car.

I just had a problem with my fans not shutting off - I replaced the ThermoFan switch on the rad and it worked again. I have been told that the switch either gets stuck "on" or "off". The one in your car may be getting bad - eventually, it may not come on at all.
Does your car overheat? When you shut your car down, what is the temperature? The fan will only stay on if the coolant temperature is high. Sometimes I drive for a while and when I shut her down, the fan goes off right away - other times it runs after shut down for like 2 minutes, never usually any more.
As long as your car is staying cool and not heating up - I wouldn't worry about it not staying on - perhaps it's working, but just doesn't need to stay on due to proper cooling from driving.
I have a 944S - by the way, incase it makes a difference.

This might be normal behavior. What will occasionally happen is that after your engine shuts off, it will heat soak or get warmer since thermal energy isn't being pumped out through the radiator. Then the fan will kick on. But if your turbo has that after-run coolant pump, it keeps pumping coolant after the engine shuts off, thereby reducing the heat soak effect, and making it likely that you don't hear your fan very often. If the fan does keep running every now and then, it's probably working properly.
