Post Back on the road

After 10 long days, I have a car I can drive again. For more info see Hit A Pothole.

On a non-Tabor-centric note, I weighed my bent rim. It is an aftermarket 17x7.5" late offset 964 C2 Turbo style rim that I purchased from Wheel Enhancement.

It weighes 24lbs. I really want some Fikse.

Good looking wheels Tabor, they are actually the ones that I wanted for my car (got design 90s with the car though). I saw design 90 wheels on the website you mentioned but they list them as 6x16. Mine are 8 inches in the rear and 7 (i think) in the front, are they the ones intended for the carrera or the 928? Just askin cause you appear to be one of the resident 944 encyclopedias on the forum. Also, how much do you think I should sell my refinished teldials for? They are the flatter looking variety found on the 87+ cars mounted with pirelli p5oo assymetric tires with about 75% left.

Be happy that you have the design 90s, IMO they are a better wheel than the aftermarket ones I have. They are much lighter. I think the design 90s are a 944 wheel.

Here is the Design 90 page. It lists them as coming in 6, 7, 7.5, 8 and 9 x 16". It also states that they "Originally shipped on 1989-91 Carrera 2 and 4, 944S2, 928".

Do you have Design 90s or Discs?

Nope, I have design 90s which are actually 8 inches in front and 9 inches in the back (pretty sure this time). I remember seing design 90s on 911s when I was younger and I recall sying that I would never want those nasty Mercedes sedan look alike wheels (they didnt seem sporty enough). But they sure do the trick on the 944 ( way better than bubble-tire teledials)

You must have the "Club Sport" 16" Forged wheels that came on the 1988 951S, 1989 951, and 928 GT. They look like Design 90s.

Remember, aftermarket wheels are almost always heavier than the original Porsche wheels unless you go to Fikse or Kenesis.

Also, Porsche, and almost everyone else, measures their rims from inside lip to inside lip where the beead of the tire is. Many people think they have wider rims than they do because they are measuring them wrong. Case in point: I have Kenesis Supercup 17X8 and 17X10s. The measurement on the front outside to outside are 8 7/8. Many would say that was an 8 1/2. Same on the rear. My 10s measure almost 11 on the outside.

I measured the contact patch, which is probably about one inch wider than lip to lip. Tabor: I wish I had the clubsports but I dont, they are regular design 90s like on the S2 and C2&4 carrera. People think theyre REALLY expensive just because I have RUF center caps.hehehehehe

I have the club sport design 90's...
Personally...I'd love to have a set of porsche factory C2 turbo wheels...but if I get new wheels, I'd get wider wheels than stock. My dreambook is leaning towards the lindsey 3 piece fuch's...Fuch's just scream Porsche IMO...

BTW the way to tell club sport's from regular design 90's is that the club sports (forged) have lines in them near the spokes...regular design 90's (cast) don't have these lines and are completely smooth...
