Default 7,000 RPM Limiter

Do any of you out there have a 7k RPM limiter? I do, on one of my chips, but I have noticed that my tach will display what looks like about 6,800 before it hits the limiter. Wilk told me that it's the old analog gauge that can't even keep up.

Why would you want such a high limiter? assuming you have an N/A

Peak power is at 5500 rpm, At 4500 & 6500 rpm you'll have roughly the same amount of horsepower. So why do you want to rev so much and really not having any power there. The only thing you're doing is killing your bearings.

I don't want to rev that high on a regular basis, and I am aware of the power curve...

This is the chip my car came with. All I asked is if it is just my gauge or if it's a limitation in all 944 gauges.

As for bearings... I think I would be more worried about valve float. I have a spare 944 head and if the whole engine imploded I'd drop in a 968 swap and supercharge it.

For reference my rev counter reads about 200rpm higher than actual.

Thanks for the input Eric... I guess it's just an old analog gauge.

I see an engine rebuild in your future if your not worried about the rod bearings

Planning on doing Rod Bearings this winter. Recently I realized I have been babying the engine too much since I bought this car. I did buy it to drive it, after all?

Anyways, I don't even rev this high, ever, it was just a question out of curiosity. I can see where one might infer, but all I'm hearing is an unwarranted condescending tone.

I don't. I wouldn't care if the limiter was 6,000, I don't drive that hard often anyways. But, the limiter is raised on FR Wilk's "Race" chip, regardless. It is possible to increase the power up that high but the cost involved seems silly to me for pretty minor gain.

you can't have a 7000 rpm limiter until you reach at least 1,000 posts.

that's it.

I don't know that 7k is an automatic death sentence. The motor in my s made it 160k on the original rod bearings with a 6,800 rpm rev limit

If your car grew 8 more valves I suppose the 7k limiter would make sense.

I swear the S cars should rev to 8500 RPM. You hit 5k and it just ROCKETS to redline. Its crazy and really annoying at the same time. There simply isn't enough time between the rush and redline. I guess thats what turbos are for

Its the one thing I hate about these engine's V8 heritage. Little slower than some of the other 4 bangers out there...
