Post bleeding the cooling system

I've decided to bleed my cooling system and was told that i might need to bleed it several times before all the air is out. Once the blder valve is open, does it matter if i have my heat on full or completely turned off? should it be in the middle of the guage? still trying to get all the air out. any ideas are always greatly appreciated. Thanks

You *might* need to bleed it several times. It seems to be hit or miss. I've been lucky lately... maybe my milking hand is getting more refined The heat must be on, so you are circulating water/air through the heater core and other bits. The engine temp should be normal, or warm enough to trip the thermostat. Here's a Tech-Session link to help out with the details:

Good Luck!

Sometimes it takes a few tries. You definitely want to circ through the heater as well.

P-guy, like Skip said, the engine needs to be hot enough to have the thermostat open. If you're worried about hot coolant splatter, wear an old glove, and drap a rag over the wrench & bleeder bolt. But _don't_ de-pressurize the system; you want the pressure to help push the air out. You're just going to loosen the bleeder, not take it out. And yes, it can take several tries.

Jim, anybody got any teabags?
