Default How to clear shift rod, tranny removal

How do I get the shift rod to clear the tranny before pulling the tranny? I got it disconnected at the shifter and trans, and can move it back an forth a but not enough to clear the transmission.

also what fluid should i used in a lsd transmission? I did a search and there is so much contradictory info on trans fluid. some say gl4 other say gl4......I followed someones advice here few years ago and put in 2 litres of redline mt90 and one bottle of lightweight shockproof. but mt90 is gl4 and I think 944 lists gl5 fluid.

Once the rod is disconnected, you should be able to wiggle it around and bring it forward. Keep playing with it

Redline MT-90 definitely. After the shift rod is disconnected, disconnect it from the shift lever in the console and rotate it about 90 degrees and push it forward about 12".

The shift rod doesn't pull all the way clear... when you pull the transmission out and back, it'll clear the rest of the way.

yeah but mine isn't even close to clearing the transmission. someone told me to remove the shift lever assembly and the foam to have more room to push it forward.

not sure how to remove the foam without destroying it.

Someone else is telling you that you only need to push the lever forward about 8-10 inches...
