Our might be different...I have an '83. But there should be a grey wire on the back of the ignition switch that powers the radio.

Sounds like an ignition switch issue, Pete. I'd pull the switch and check on the back for continuity between it and the wire going into the radio. Then check for 12v coming out of the switch. Not necessarily in that order.

Would other things be affected by the ignition switch?
I have no problem getting to the switch etc, but curious if there are other indicators...

36 Should Be Constant 12V, 39 Should Be Switched 12v

I have this exact same problem that just happened. Mine is an '85.4. Doesn't the switched fuse get power from the ignition switch, so if there is power to fuse 39 there should be power from the ignition switch?

I wonder if because '85 and '86 were at the beginning of the late model 944 if there isn't an early radio relay left over hidden somewhere?

I know I could just splice switched power from say the cigarette lighter, but I rather fix it properly.

Fixed...and for the record, 36 provides the switched power.

By fixed do you mean it was just fuse 39 that was bad?
