Post FUEL SENDING UNIT - REMOVING IT?

I want to change the seal/o-ring between my fuel sending unit and fuel tank because I believe that a small amount of vapor is escaping into the passenger compartment (characteristic gas smell after car sits for several days). I'll also do the sender unit cleaning as previously described in the forum to correct the "3/4 full problem."

I just want to confirm that the sending unit is held in place by the black plastic retaining ring (about 3 inches in diameter). I tried turning this counterclockwise by hand, and it wouldn't budge. My largest pliers have about a 2 inch opening, so I may need to get a larger tool to take off the retaining ring.

Let us know how it goes. I have the same problem, but was going to address later. I wasnt aware there was info about it. I was assuming that I would have to replace my sender.

Removing the ring can also be accomplished with a hammer and screw driver to pop it loose then finish by hand. There is an SST but I usually dont use it.

good luck

In case your wondering, that SST to remove the huge sender unit nut was $250 in the Baum tools catalog.

I tried to take a look at the tool (to see if I could fab it), however I didn't see it in the online catalog for Baum Tools/Porsche. Do you have a tool number for it or is it listed in another section ?? --Roy--
