Unhappy Stalling when putting the clutch in

I've got an '86 951 that I picked up a few days ago. This morning I did an oil/filter change (it took about 6.5 quarts) and since then occasionally when I put in the clutch to slow down and/or come to a stop, the RPMs fall and continue right past normal idle speed and go right to 0. Then the red "!" comes on and I can start it right back up with no problem. This definitely wasn't happening before today, and it doesn't happen every time. Once it's at idle speed it idles pretty well - just seems like it forgets to start idling sometimes when the RPMs start dropping. This happens while I'm coasting to a stop so I don't think it has anything to do with the power steering. I did spill some oil around the filler area.

Could this have something to do with the idle control valve? I looked up the engine idle speed in the Haynes but it said to take it to a dealer (blah).

The car has an APE MAF, APE Stage II chips, 3" exhaust and test pipe, and a BOV.

TIA

Update:

It doesn't seem to be doing it anymore (which makes me think something was stuck open/close from the hot/cold/etc even more).. Still, I'm sure it will start happening again at the worst time - so if anyone has any clue about what might have been the cause.. I'm all ears.

You have a blow off valve totally to the atmosphere? That isn't going to help matters when you let off the throttle as the MAF will think more air is going in than really is.

Yea, I know. Previous owner installed it, and I'm still debating whether or not to remove it because I kind of like the sound.. The bypass valve is still in place, which should make the BOV a little less harmful.

If you like the sound the rice boys have an electric one for N/A cars, I kid you not! You could always put one of them in and plumb 100% of the bypass back in to the turbo.

I know.. I've seen those kits If the car hadn't come with it I wouldn't have even considered putting one on, but since it's already on there it will take motivation for me to remove it. I've got an aif/fuel gauge enroute so I can see how bad it really is.
