Sad day yesterday...
After missing most of the track season last year because my car was in a body shop, I was really excited for Metro NY's opening DE event this weekend. I drove down Thursday night for the Friday-Saturday event. Friday was rainy, so I got some practice with finessing the car through turns but never really got to push the car. On Saturday, however, it was sunny and clear, and I finally got to really give the car some gas.
The first session was good, getting the feel of the car back, but the second session took a turn for the disastrous about 3/4 of the way through - coming down the front straight, I heard/felt a pop in the braking zone. When I went to get on the gas, I felt no power and then I saw smoke. At that point, I knew I had to pull over and bail...my instructor and I got out quickly, and I'm happy to say that we're both OK, which really is the important thing. The fire crews responded quickly, but there was a fair bit of damage under the hood and under the car by the time they got everything cooled off. I'm still not exactly sure what the root cause was, but I think that this is the end of the road for my 924S.
I will probably have some FS threads up separately for the parts inventory I've built up over the years, and once I figure out what the state of things on my car is, it will probably be for sale too, hopefully to build up some cash to put towards the next car. In the meantime I just wanted to post this to vent, and I'll follow up with some pictures and maybe video of the last session.
I had the car for over 7 years and had many great memories with it, so I'm feeling a bit sentimental. Thanks for reading

This could change if I get a surprise once I get the details on where things stand on the car, but this might be my opportunity to upgrade to a whole S2 or 968, or perhaps a newer Porsche (base 06-08 Caymans have been coming down in price and I got a ride in one from an instructor on Saturday - even with just 245hp, it was a very fun ride).

I'm glad you got out safely, the car is just an object. But, I'm really sorry to hear that! It's a really beautiful car. I hope it's repairable! Whatever you end up doing I hope it all works out great for you.
Don't part it out though, a racer would want it for sure, with the sunroof delete and all. GL

While it would make a great race car candidate, I hope it is salvageable as a road car. I hate to see good examples go away.
I'm in the process of saving a 968 that would have been far easier to just part out.
