My manual claims 2998lbs.. but I've seen lots of different numbers from ~2750 to ~3150.. only way to really tell involves a trip to a weigh station with both cars.

It amazes me...a car as small as a 944 that weighs a ton and a half....They must fill the frames with lead or concrete!!
My '84 weighs in at 2665. (without spare, which I don't recommend long trips without)Remove the asphalt pad under the rear compartment for a start. Then start looking around for other useless items. (so much sound deadening material....Yikes!!)
Craig, put the car on a diet...remove any and all unnecessary items to lighten the car. Back in the 80s I had a 6.5 second turbo Corvair. It can be done with a relatively small engine. By the way: The early turbos such as the Corvair and the Buicks of the 60s did not use bypass valves or bypasses, and worked very well. There is much that can be done with 2.5 liters. Consider the new Nissan 2.4 passenger engine listing 180 HP. If you are looking to warm up your '83, look up PAECO. They have modified engines; stage 1, 2 and 3. Catalog is free. I recommend their stage 2 head. Don't ask....
