Post Rim question (kind of long)....

I'm looking for some larger rims for my Turbo S- I currently have the 16x7 & 16x9 (225/50/16 & 245/45/16). I want larger rims (17") and am very concerned w/both looks and weight- I don't like the way aftermarket rims look on 951's any better than my Club Sports (that I've seen so far). What I like most are the 968 17's (C2's), which I've been told are pretty heavy. There are several other issues to consider though- I like rotors to fill out the rims. I've been told that the only Porsche rims that are lighter (and larger) than mine are the hollow spokes, which are 18". This would help on several levels...

1st, I could go to a larger rolling diameter, which would negate the problems w/going to 18" rims on these cars, I'm pretty sure- I believe it's the fact that matching the stock RD (24.68 for 245/45/16 or 24.86 for 225/50/16) would leave so little profile w/an 18"- this makes it more likely for potholes and such to ruin the rims. Also, a taller RD would make the gearing taller as well, although it's not the best way to go about it- I would like my gearing to be a little taller- especially after I have my engine rebuilt and start modifying it. And last, the larger RD would fill out the wheel wells which they really could use IMO- especially the rears...

The problem: 17's are easier to fill out w/rotors- 12.7" rotors w/Big Reds are a standard upgrade and since there are so many of them, they are cheaper- 12.7" rotors wouldn't fill out 18's very well though IMO, AND, the rears are MUCH tougher to find larger rotors for. Anyone know of decent rotors in the 12.7" to 13" range that wouldn't cost too much, and maybe be 2-piece that are actually comparable weight-wise?

I really think the 18's would look the best w/the taller RD- 245/40/18 & 275/35/18, but the tires are more expensive and the brakes (rotors) become a problem too...

Any advice anyone? Does anyone have any of the weights of the following rims either w/or w/out tires?
Hollow Spokes
*968 rims (C2's)- 17"
Standard 993 cup

*- I have been sent the weights of these by two people- one said his weighed 49lbs and the other said 55lbs- both were weighed w/tires of course, but the 6lb dif really sounds like a little too much to me, so I'd like to get the weights of a few others to compare...

Thanks a lot for any input anyone out there can provide- I really appreciate it...

I don't have any weights for you but I know that the factory rims are almost always lighter than the aftermarket replicas (your forged club sports are some of the lightest I think). Some have bought replicas with no problems others will never buy them again.
Aftermarket makers like Kinesis or Fikse are popluar with racers due to their lightweight two or three-piece design, but they are very expensive (upwards of $600 a piece).
18's are not recommended for our cars by the factory, so thats something to consider. There is a bulletin out on upgrading to 17" rims, I can email it to you if you want it. I sent you a private message about a set of factory rims (17") I have for sale, let me know if your interested, and good luck.
