Rear Wheel Bearing Replacement
I have put together a Rear Wheel Bearing Replacement procedure for 1985.5-1995 944/944S/944S2/951/968's <a href="http://porsche.pdxmax.com/wheelbearings/" target="_blank">here</a>. Please post any comments/reccomendations to either this thread or e-mail them to me.

Tabor,
The step by step procedure looks very thorough and well done. I do have one recommendation on something you could add at the beginning though. How about a short explanation of what symptoms replacing the rear wheel bearing might resolve (i.e. thunking noise, scrapping noise, etc.).
Keep up the great work!

Tabor, thanks for the great post. No scraping (or scrapping) noises yet, but with 113K rolled up on the odo, I'm sure it'll be on my future list of projects.
One question: are there special pullers/presses available that will allow you to remove/replace the bearings with the trailing arms on the car? Just want to avoid the necessity of another expensive alignment(!)

Deni, my limited knoledge tells me that it is MUCH easier to replace the rear wheel bearings in 1978-85 cars. You should not need to do all that work. In fact,
<a href="http://www.tech-session.com/Paragon/Tech/944_early_rwb.htm" target="_blank">here</a> is the procedure on <a href="http://www.tech-session.com/" target="_blank">tech-session.com</a>.
dk944s2, I hear there is a VW tool that can be used with the trailing arms on the car, but it is spendy ~$150 and hard to find. There is mention of it in the archives.
As for time, it took me 4 hours to disassemble each side, so it probably took me AT LEAST 16 hours total. You need to bleed the brakes, etc...
