I had good results with Mancini Machine of Catonsville (Baltimore), Maryland. They don't sell remanufactured 944 engines, but they can re-build yours if you can get it to them.

You might try Paeco Industries paeco.com or 1-800-326-6401. They sell engines in various stages of build at what I think are reasonable prices. Don't go to stage 3 for street, though...stage 2 is plenty..... They also sell pistons, cams (many grinds), competition clutch sets, etc. Call and order a catalog. LEt me know what you think...
