Post OT: Is anyone using a relay with their hands-free kit to mute your head unit?

I have a hands-free kit with a "mute wire" that mutes the head unit when a call comes in or goes out. My head unit does not have a mute wire in the harness (or capabilities for that matter). It has been suggested in several places on the net that a relay be used for tripping the mute (see for e.g. www.modjunky.co.uk/Modifications.html ). I tried using an automotive relay but it is not tripping the circuit. I think this is because the relay is rated too high. Any suggestions on a relay w/ an 87a configuration, with a low enough rating, that it will work? Thanks -
