Post radio static

recently, i installed and rerouted a new hirshmann cheapo antenna onto my car. well, it didn't exactly fit in the front fender too well. it was to short and didn't clamp on to the rubber thing. i managed to get it on there though with some quick thinking and it's very stable but when i turn on the radio going down the road i get static...when i turn the car off, the stations are crystal clear.

i'm assuming that the antenna wire is touching some other wire and causing intereference. (i rerouted the new antenna wire to a new place b/c the old place was a bad place to put it)

any suggestions?

Check all your grounds. A lot of the time, static comes from a component not being grounded correctly.

Antenna
Ground is where the housing is in contact with the sheet metal.
Use di-electric compound for corrosion protection.
You might want to consider an (in-board) amplified antenna, not realy cheap but solves the corrosion problem,

PS: ground is made on the inside, where the clamp meets the metal surface.
The outside should be sealed with a grummet.

Moving the antenna up & down a couple of times and then pulling it out completely will help sometimes....

i don't know if this helps any but with my stock radio and stock antenna, it did the samething: fm reception was really poor when the engine was running but good when off.
