Post Windshields and suction cups

I just received my Escort 8500 in the mail. In the instruction book it says that "some cars, including some Porsches" (it's weird, it's like they knew I had a Porsche), "have an anti-lacerative coating on the windshield", and that suction cups can "permanently mar" the glass. Is this feature only found on the newer cars? Has anyone else had problems with suction cups on their windshields? (I have a 90S2.)

Porsche made two type of windshields for the 944. One with a protective plastic film coating, and the other one without. Don't know if the plastic film was a temporary work around for US safety regulations (windshield safety glass), or what.

The concern i sthat the suction cups of a radar detector, or even the application of a safety inspection sticker on the plastic coated glass, can easily scratch the plastic film.

The two can be distinguished by name. You should find somewhere (upper right corner?) of windshield, the name for the glass.

SEKURIT is the standard windshield glass without plastic film.

Anybody know the name of the glass with the plastic film? I'll check my owner's manual and post it later.
