Canadian Hockey kicks ***! (ot)
Yeah baby, it was about time that Canada won the gold. I've never seen so much patriotism in Canadians. Right after the game there were hundreds of people driving around with Canadian flags and there were thousands honking their horns like mad. There were even kids in the middle of reasonably busy streets playing street hockey. Cool.
Oh yeah, to all ya'll Americans: Nah nah nah booboo

"May we annex you now?"
Shhhh!!! We already did, we're just keeping it a secret. Comes under the same gov't conspiracy program as UFO's, the Philadelphia Project, JFK, black UN helicopters, and TWA 800...
Jim, "Please return your seatbacks and trays to the upright position and don your tinfoil helmets, eh?"

Good for all the Canadians you beat one good team all tournament, congrats .
Seriously, it means more to Canada then it does to the USA (which is really sad - hockey is THE best live sport going, hands down)so the gold medal has a good home.

It wasn't that long ago that monster truck racing was more popular in the US than hockey. I'm not kidding.
Congratulations to our Canadian team.....
Canada, where the air is a little cleaner, and the Porsches a little faster!!!!!!!!!!

YESSS!!! What a game!!!! I loved it. I agree with you Matt, it's really great to see Canadians showing their patriotism!!! I live near Robson Street, and there were literally thousands of people running around with their flags after the game. What a great day. And I applaud the US team, they played very well, and showed real class after the game was over. A toast to the greatest game in the world.

I-AM-CANADIAN!!!!
....and so proud of it.
Sure we only beat "one good team". Sure Belarus was a gimmie (don't say that to a Swede though), but we faced, in my opinion, the toughest team in the tourney and beat them.....that's all that matters. Remember, this was USA's Gold to lose. They win Gold in Hockey everytime they host and haven't even lost a game on home soil since '72 I think. Canada faced a very big challenge in the USA, bigger than any other team would have offered.
It's true - the Gold Medal does have a better home in Canada vs it being in the US - but I want to personally thank the American people for somewhat embracing a sport that means more to us than any other sport means to any other Country. The American interest in Hockey has improved funding and such in our Minor Systems and has focused the worlds eyes more so towards the game we, as Canadians, live and breath. This additional interest from the American people has helped us in sooo many ways - but stop taking our teams and moving them to US cities please (Lol).
Seriously - the American people may not have a grasp of how important the sport of Hockey is to us Canadians. I could skate before I could walk, seriously. My Elementary school had TWO school hockey teams, one that beat the other in the finals in front of 3000 people - I was playing Hockey in front of 3000 at the age of 6!! (mind you, I grew up just outside Windsor, Nova Scotia....the birthplace of Hockey). The first time I cried due to emotions and not pain was over a Hockey game (I was very young).
Let me put it this way.....at 3:30 yesterday (a half hour before game time), it was a ghost town outside. I was at the store buying some game snacks and saw about 5-6 guys on the way there and back. Every single one of them acted like a Doctor who was late for open-heart surgery - EVERYONE had to "get home for the game". Our Country shut down for 3 hours. I could actually hear the sounds of Victory when Iginla (I'm a huge Calgary Flames fan, so I'm very happy with Iggy's game) scored to make it 4-2. After the initial cheering at my place died down (I was shushing everyone so I could hear if Iggy scored the goal) - you could actually hear everyone in their homes around you cheering and screaming - it was really cool!!!
Our entire Nation all stood at once when they played the National Anthem. I know I did and everyone I know did. I'd say at least 75% of Canada was on their feet during that song, if not more.
Damn right's the Gold is where it belongs. Wanna know why? I was watching the coverage on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company) and NBC and saw that CBC covered EVERY single second of everything, but as soon as the game was over, NBC started showing Bobsled or something - they didn't even stay live so the American people could see their Hockey team get it's Silver and I even doubt NBC would have stayed with it's coverage if USA won the Gold!! They seem too interested in Applo Anton Ohno (sp?) and he only skates in circles for short periods. Oh well.
Keep supporting the Hockey America - it's a much better game that ol' boring Baseball and Basketball (which was also invented by Canadians, by the way) - Football is cool - but nothing holds a candle to Hockey. I mean, hey, what other sport is as high-flying and where else can you watch two men duke it out without promoters and you don't have to pay-to-view??
Congratulations to the men, and women who made us proud to be Canadians and we'll see ya in 4 years!!

I have this belief that hockey should be played in cities only where there is naturally occuring ice, the NHL started killing itself when they put teams in florida, it is so sad to see a game this good be managed so badly.
I didn't mean to bash Canada in the previous post, just sour-grapes. The USA played much better in its previous games and had a tougher second round, would have made a great seven game series anyway.

All that stuff about USA's gold to loose...
I completely disagree. It was a decent game, and of course I was pulling for USA, but I knew before it started Canada was going to win. We only hung in there so long as we did because of Richter.
Yes, we have the NHL. But during the Olypics all the really good players go play for their home country - Canada.
The USA can always take some credit though... because without us there would be no NHL were Gretzky (The GreatEST One) and other great players are able to hone their skills. :-)
-Matt
PS
I played hockey for a few years in Germany and a few years in America so I'm not just a poser.
PPS
IMHO, they should leave PRO players OUT of the Olympic games. We destroyed Russia the other day (good), but in all reality - big freakin' deal. Now, the Miracle on Ice WAS a big deal because the US team was amateurs.

Ahhhhhhhhhh - beating the Russians IS a big freakin' deal.
Not have pro players in the Games??? Did you know the Finnish, Swedish, Russian, and Czech were just about 100% NHL players?? Having pro players doesn't benefit anyone but the fans. Sure countries like Belarus (still had a few pros though) and France don't benefit from pro players playing - but they don't really have much of a chance, even with amature players.
If a country has athletes that play certain sports, then they should be allowed to represent their country - regardless of where they play that sport. This whole amature/pro debate was not an issue back in Rome - why is it now???
But I see your point.....it is a hot debate with many opinions.

Au Canada! Congrats. I agree with Matt after watching most of the US and Canadian Olympic games I thought the US didn't quite play up to their potential while Canada was ON their game. Still a great one to see. Funny to see Wayne high-fiving in the stands... you dont suppose he woulda rather been on the ice doya?
Now the US v Russia games- those were awesome hockey spectacles! Some of the finest play-making I've seen since watching the ol' red army teams in the 80s.
And how about those women? Canadian girls KICK A*S! Says so on my snowboard. Oh yeah, can't wait to get back up to Whistler this friday for a month of rippin! If any of you guys wanna catch a Cannucks game...Later
Mike

So, I heard a joke yesterday.
Do you want to know why Canada beat the US in men's hockey at the Olympics?
Cause the US only had 2 Canadians on their team.
It's actually true...Brett Hull, and Adam Deadmarsh (both dual citizens)

OOH, Ian, nice one! By the way, I was at Weissach getting my alignment done on monday along with a few minor things and asked Stuart if he knew you. Damn, looks like he likes your car. Right away he was like "Yeah, I did an alignment and corner balance for him a while back". He talked about your custom fabricated plumbing etc. I told him you just dynoed around 400hp at the crank and he said he wasnt surprised. Anywho, send me an email when you get tired of the car .
