Post difficult ignition

I dont know if this is because the car is 14 years old with 125K on it, or if its normal or what. But it seems like the car really struggles to start.
Ill turn the key and itll crank for what seems to be unusually long before it turns over. I changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, distributor cap/rotor. Is it the ignition coil or the fuel injectors? Is this a common thing? Has anyone else experienced this? This is not a BIG deal because it always starts. But it just seems like it shouldnt be happening... any thought?

My car would always crank a while also before starting. It didn't seem like a battery problem but when I thoroughly cleaned the terminals and grounds everything was better. I dunno if this is your problem but its an inexpensive place to start...

If you have original plug wires, may want to look at them. And coil.

Fuel injectors: a cleaning job might not be a bad idea if you have the time. Someone posted a nice little procedure a while back. Sort of risky the way he was spraying fuel around but sounded pretty neat to do, especially if you take precautions on this fuel in the air issue.

While we're on the easy stuff, throw a timing light on the coil wire and see if you get spark as soon as you start cranking.

What type of fuel pressure is present at startup. You can buy and install one of those fuel pressure gages that install on the fuel rail. I have read that this problem could be caused by a bad check valve in the fuel pump or leaky injectors.

Hope this helps.

My 944 starts instantaneously or 1 turn over. I've replaced the Dist. Cap, Rotor, Spark Plug Wires, spark plugs, ignition, and Coil though. All new connections, it's such a smoother ride all around now...
