Question Burning Oil

My '86 951 seems to be burning a lot of oil (added 2 quarts in the last 6 weeks), and there are no leaks. Is the engine tired, or should I worry about something else?

my oil pan gasket went so the oil burns off almost immediately on the exhaust manifold. Check there.

How many miles are you getting per quart? How many miles on the car? Dirty oil will burn up faster, so how often do you change?

Besides all the seals and piston rings, the turbo bearings can pass oil also.

Oh, I probably shouldn't raise this lest it be happening, but do you have oil in the coolant?

There's no oil in the coolant. There has been about 1500 miles since the last oil change, so I guess about 750 miles per quart. My engine does have a lot of miles, close to 90,000 since a rebuild.

Well that is probably getting high on consumption, if you are not running hard.

So, I guess you need to start thinking about all the usual culprits. Compression test is first on my list. Look at the turbo if it is still original.
