Post 993 TT (Big Red) Brakes on '86 944 Turbo

Has anyone really installed factory 993 TT brakes on a 1986 944 Turbo? Or is there no way to do it without upgrading to 1987+ spindles, etc.?

Doc did it, you will need to have the hubs machined and get the correct hats and adapters. The only one I know that has 86 offset hats and adapets is wrightwood racing.

Lindsey Racing sells the adapters and hubs, as well as the complete kit for the '86. They are made by Kokeln. Go to their website or call them, I think the parts are complete bolt-on no machining needed.

Cool

call Lindsey Racing....they sell an adapter kit that does not offset the wheels. Actually Lindsey just came out with the adapters about 2 weeks ago.

Actually, Kokeln has had the kit for quite some time now. Check out their website at http://www.kokeln.com and go to the 944 Brake section. You'll see in the photo that there are two different rotor hats displayed. The shorter one is for the '86. The exact same parts are needed for the '86 as the later cars (hats, adapters, rotors & calipers). Just the dimensions are a little different, no need to modify your hubs or anything else. They used to have it listed on their website as "Pn. KI119 944 Turbo 86-87 - Front".

H Dog,

Fletch is right, I did upgrade my 86 to the 993TT Big Reds. In actuality, the set up eliminated the downfall of the 86 hub design. If you've ever changed your rotors, you know what I'm talking about.

The machining part wasn't too hard, I found a local shop that did it for me pretty cheap and did an excellent job. The only other things you’ll need are longer studs, which you can get from a local dealer. Once you've made the upgrade, you pretty much cant tell the difference between the 86 and later models... of course with the exception of the offset.

I bought my hats and adapters from Powerhaus however I believe there are others who now offer them like Kokeln. Only problem with their's is the purple color. The hats I got were gold.

Lastly, don't forget you need 17-inch rims to clear the caliper.

Good luck.
