Steering wheel nut

Hey, anyone know offhand what size the nut that holds the steering wheel on is in the pre-85s? It's bigger than a 15/16ths and a 20mm, which are the biggest I have on hand. Is it a 24?

don't know ofhand, but it is one of the normal 1/2" socket kit.
Hex size 27 mm or 32 mm would be my best guess.
You need the T-bar with the short (6 inch?) extention and a helper to hold the wheel.
Take care

I am 98% sure it is a 27mm. Pulling the column apart is tricky, the plastic pieces break easily...

Devildog,

On my 86 it is 24MM. I am positive. When pulling the wheel, having an extension magnet on hand helps to fish out the washer(s) under the nut.

On my '83 it is 24mm. No question.

I don't know ... those nuts all seem pretty small. The nut that holds our pre-'85 steering wheel on is about 6'0" :D

on a 85.5 na the nut is a 24mm with a 1.5 pitch(fine threaded). i remember cause none of the hardware stores around me carried anything but 2.0 pitch! doh! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
