Yes, I was wondering that also. Why-o-why would you go to all that trouble with an AT-equipped automobile?

Agree. That auto trans is not likely to last long under the additional power/torque of a supercharger. Having one myself, I've resolved to taking it easy most times, to keep my tranny healthy.

If you go ahead with your project, just make sure you set aside $1300 of that $5500, for a rebuilt auto trans from Vertex

WAIT!! With all the talk about power and speed, everyone seems to have forgotten one HUGE area of concern.... brakes. I'll agree that 'hopping' a car for more power/speed is occasionally wanted (go buy a 996 Twin T if you want that much power), the need to balance the car, as a sytem is REALLY important. If you're gonna upgrade the power/speed, take the time and cash to upgrade the brakes, too. And what about the suspension? I've seen some hideous spin-outs and near-wall crashes at auto-X's from 'home' mechanics who turbo, supercharge, chip, etc, their 944's, only to forget about the brakes. Result: boiling brakes at the end of a straight, no stopping, lots of spinning and near -hits of other people's cars. Please, if you improve the power, improve the stop. Safe is better than dead.

Just my 2 c's worth.

The entire thing sound like a less than desirable situation. The car is auto, and for a only 236 or whatever to pay 5100.00 is some very expensive horses.

Sell the car for 8k add you 5.5k and look for a 10k turbo. Use the 3.5k left to fund your insurance until your 18.

I have some NA's AND a Turbo. the difference between the two is minimal. The insurance for my turbo is about 900 A YEAR! (FULL COVERAGE) I am 22. If you get an 87 the airbags will lower the insurance cost significantly. about 35% at statefarm. or that is what they told me. i like having the bags too. as dangerous as the old bags could be...
I have seen on this forum time and time again, "get a turbo". I have one and i love racing mine. it is great! good luck
