Post First Time Buyer

Hi everybody. This is my first post to this board even though I have been reading it for a few months now. I am currently interested(well more than interested) in buying a 944 NA. I want to spend about 4000 on a 944 with 90-100k and will have about 1000-1500 a year set aside for maitnance and parts(possibly more for aftermarket performance stuff but that's just with any extra cash). I intend to do most of the work with my dad who used to be a mechanic years ago (on some of the ol' german cars 2002, 911, etc.). If I do at least the proper maitnance and only put about 2k miles a year on the car, does this budget seem somewhat reasonable,( barring a catastrophic event like say a timing belt, or water pump)?

Yes it does, but you will probably put more then 2K miles a year on it. That's pretty darn low.

You'll probably be looking in the range of 1985-1986 for $4 grand.

Take care,
Matt

I agree that your budget should be good. If you've read the FAQ's and watched this list for a few months, you know all the things to check out. Do make the investment in having a good, knowledgable 944 mechanic check the car out before you buy. I'd line 'em up in advance, should cost about an hour and half of labor to do.

Knowing the common cost points on the car, checking them thoroughly, and being patient will put you in a good spot.

Good luck keeping the miles down. I run up about 13000 miles a year on mine now.

Keep the shiny side up,
