Angry Limit Slip Differential -(Everyone Read)-

I noticed something today guys.
When I'd do a Medium to High RPM start I'd have two lines of Rubber about the exact same size and thickness! But I have an open differential. Yes the cars rear end does slide a lit'l on high rpm starts. But I thought it was only supposed to do one TREAD. Is that NORMAL?

Craig, you'd need to turning for the LSD to come into play. I bet if you lay rubber with the wheel cocked to one side it'd spin just the inside one? dunno..

Craig, I have an open dif and believe me, you can definately feel it in the twisty bits. Never tried to burn off good tread in a straight line so can't help you there.

In a straight line, with even loading on both tires, you get a 50/50 torque-split and both tires share the power evenly, thus two tread marks.

As soon as you have turning and weight-transfer to the outside, the inside tire will start spinning due to more of the power going to the inside, which is the opposite of what you want.

At the cornering limit in a tight switch-back type corner, give it gas and you'll see what happens.

Sure.. you can just install the LSD from a car that had one.. or just swap the whole tranny.. or there are probably aftermarket options that may work better than OEM (i.e., Quaife, Torsen).
