should I spend money and tow it to a mechanic and have it looked at before buying a transmission?

I just can't think of what else it could be

well few people have said it sounds like when their ring and pinion went so i'm going on that.

also like I said before it broke like this it started making a sound like I had a flat tire for a few minutes then it jammed up like this.

R&P for sure.

Between two of my cars I've busted 7 of them.

It's all good.

If you really want to verify, you can pull the drain plug on the bottom of the trans, and see what pours out.

Most of the time you will get a few chunks of gears spitting out followed by a chunky stream of metallic flake loaded gear oil.

It sure sounds like the R&P, but if it were me, I'd take the half shafts off and inspect the CV joints. You're going to have to take them off anyway if it is the tranny. I would also remove the brake rotor and look at the parking brake stuff.

It would be most depressing to buy and change out a tranny and find out it didn't solve the problem.

Kamloops,
Diagnose the problem (or have it done) before you buy ANYTHING!
