Post Can a stock »944 TURBO S«, do a 13.5?

I think they indeed COULD, if it was 1990 right now. This question is only here because of a 'debate' me and Adrial are having. I also don't think porsche launches their cars when they test 0-60's and 1/4 mile times. More I think about it, the more I believe it can. Brand New wastegate, brand new turbo, brand new motor, brand new tires, brand new bearings, brand new clutch (broken in of course) fresh everything, COME ON!! We're talking about fractions of seconds here, don't you think EVERYTHING matters adrial? Just my thoughts on the matter...

Personally, I think there are some that can. Mileage and/or maintenance is an important factor. I've got a meticulously maintained, low mileage stock 89 that I think is pretty quick. Never measured my 0-60 and 1/4 mile times though. I leased a new 96 M3 for a little over 3 years and I know my 951 was quicker to 100. With me in my 951 and my buddy driving the M3, when I hit 100 in my speedo, he was a little over a car length back. And if I remember correctly, BMW claims 1/4 mile times in 13.9 secs. But to me speed ain't everything, its how the whole car gels.

I was going to tell Craig the same thing...Don't know if you have noticed Craig but the Graemlins don't work in your signature...

I sincerely doubt that you would ever see a bone stock 951 hit a 13.5. I've looked into this a lot over the last year or two, and yes, Porsche does LAUNCH their cars. The 911's of that genre were quoted as running a 13.4 or so, and all of the mags show b/t a 13.3 & 13.5. I have multiple tests of the 944 turbo's and 944 Turbo S's, and have seen several 968 tests. Really, it would make more sense for the 968 to run a faster 1/4 than the other two (at least w/Torsen & 17" rim options), but usually, it falls right in b/t. The 944 Turbo's I've seen show b/t a 14.4 & 14.6. The 968's b/t a 14.2 & 14.4, and the Turbo S b/t a 14.2 & 14.4... However, there was a Turbo S that was tested in C&D- the same test i quoted one of the weights to you from, and it ran a 13.9- it had the shorter final drive though, which gave it a better gear ratio- it didn't benefit 0-60, as it shifted into third right before, causing it to lose precious 1/10's- it hit 60 in 5.5, like other Turbo S's. As for the E36 M3, the fastest I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of them, was a 14.0, but that doesn't mean that there wasn't one somewhere that couldn't hit a 13.9. The M3 had better gearing, better tires, normal aspiration, and, larger displacement, all of which would help it overcome it's power to weight deficit. The only thing that would give a 951 an advantage today would be the tires, and that wouldn't help by too much- a tenth or two. Also, a broken in car will usually run 1 to 2 tenths quicker as well... Whatever the case, there were many of them tested, and the VERY fastest I've ever seen was the 13.9, and again, that was w/the shorter final drive- maybe it shouldn't have helped it a full 3/10's, but that particular test car could have been strong- at any rate, a 13.5 is better than 320HP Mustang Cobra's and Camaros and such and isn't too far down from a new 333HP M3, or M5, or C5 Vette, etc- these are all modern day cars w/plenty of neck snapping TQ (most of them) and all NA engines and LSD's and modern day suspensions, gearing (mostly 6-speeds), and tires... A 13.5 is pretty fast! BTW, I thought you said your car ran close to a 13.5 w/chips and LBE, etc? That's pretty damn good! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

One 13.55, on some really nice road others were more like 13.77. But this engine is fresh, and seems to me like it was built right ($10,269 rebuild at Red Line Motors in VA, though they charge like $65 an hour). It's just got chips, test pipe, dual port wastegate, 17PSI, manual boost controller.
