Post Calling Skip..........where are you Skip

Do the SS lines that you sell for $65 mount correctly to my 86 951? In other words, do they connect without and modifications and also brace like the original's?

Aside from having from having to turn the car upside-down, yes, they bolt right on. Please, oh please, use flare nut wrenches on all brake lines. There's nothing more frustrating (except the %&*$% snap ring) than rounding off a perfectly good (and expensive) hard brake line.

Good Luck!

I concur on the flare nut wrench...A friend of mine, ya that's it, a distant cousin tried to remove the existing fitting with a regular box end wrench...Bad Vodoo...Needless to say this friend, I mean cousin, had to replace the brake line...

I'm doing the SS brakelines, too, that I got from paragon.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a flare nut wrench? I don't believe I own any. Can I get them at sears? Thanks...

They have all but one side of a hex... this gives you a sure grip on the nuts (ouch!)

I have the 4-wrench Metric set from Sears:

You can get them at sears. I recently did all my brakes without them, but I knew the risk I was taking. The Porsche sized ones are hard(er) to find because they are not common sizes: 10mm, 12mm, 14mm. If I remember correctly most of the 944 brake hose ones are 11mm.

A trick (if you dare): Steadily applying force is more likely to round off a nut than hitting the wrench with you hand (sorta like a ghetto impact wrench).

Note: I do not condone any of this, but it is possible (some of the time).

Ribs,

A flare nut wrench is a six sided wrench that wraps around the bolt, versus sliding right on like a standard wrench. You have to put the wrench on the bolt from above, it gives you much better gripping power, but is more difficult to get on the bolt. An absolute must for brake lines. Sears sells very good sets in metric, three wrenches for about $20.

Ribs they ar wrenches designed for tube/line fittings they look like they are almost closed end but have a notch(for the tube) cut out of them and they are mostley if not exclusively 6 point. you can get them from sears i have a set of them in their "professional " series about $39.00 and yes they have them in both standard and metric

Thanks a ton guys! When I return my 4 mm hex bit to sears tomorrow ($6...ouch!) I'll pick one of these up (I'll be sure to size it first with one of my standard wrenches). I knew what they were, just not what they were called...kind of like the name of the tendon connecting my big toe to its muscle. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I already have the flair wrenches and willingly accept your advice. I'll order the SS lines this weekend, right after I figure out which ones fit my car.
