Running A Little Warm

working on a 87 944-n/a with a automatic. problem is it runs hot in a few situations. if drivin around at 35 to 40 mph, it runs just fine, as long as the outside temp is around 70 degrees. if the temp outside is more like 85 it runs a little hotter. if I go up at hill, or drive over 50 mph, it runs at redline on the temp gauge. it also will run at redline on gauge if the a/c is turned on. let it sit for 1/2 hour and or drive it at 35 mph in cool weather and the temp returns to normal. any insite? cracked head? no water in the oil. cracked block? no oil in the water. a semi blocked radiator? I have had the thermostat replaced but it didn't help. it doesn't leak anything, although sometimes it bleeds a little from the overflow on the resevor. any help anyone can give, before i replace the radiator at a cost of 375.00 and it might not help?

Dave -
I would check your fans to make sure that both of them are working properly. I didn't realize that a fan wasn't working until it hit 90 in New York and my car started reaching the overheat line. I have an early 944, but I believe this is the same for an 85.5+ - One fan should turn on automatically when the AC is turned on. The other fan should turn on when the engine starts to get hot (depends on your thermofan switch when it turns on). I found that as long as air was circulating (like on the highway) I wouldn't run warm even with the fan not working. Its possible that at least one of your fans may be the cause of your overheating. Just a thought, and easy check that can be done for free -
